I came across this interesting article in The Times - Picayune about the struggles school districts are facing as they try to maintain proper school dress codes while trying to accommodate rights to self-expression.
"It’s a lesson that has come about because of a failed policy by one principal to require that all tattoos be covered to remove distractions from learning."
Other school districts have taken a broader approach to the issue. For example, one school district is working toward a new district wide policy that would require students to cover only lewd and gang related tattoos.
It certainly is a touchy subject.
